Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

My slow mind this early in the day thought the same. Fortunately for me my iPad and router are in the same room . Thanks for clarifying David as the Router questions and answers were well above my pay grade.

There may be a problem with that speed between the Taiko Router and the control device. Since the design of XDMS opted not to download the metadata to the tablet, but rather keep it on the Server, sometimes the display of the covers is frustratingly slow, and I wonder if this could get worse.

A recommendation for the perfect tablet would be very welcome.

A Samsung A8 is less than 200 Swiss Francs here.
No need to add more functions than playing music with the Extreme.
If this helps all things Taiko to perform best, I think a few of us would get one.

Feel free to boost transmission power and/or mount a larger antenna or even switch to 5G but it works fine here.

My Samsung A8 does sound a little better than the ipads, but the difference is not huge

the A8 is also on special offer this weekend at Best Buy
Ed,
Do I understand correctly that the device one uses can effect the sound? This surprised me. I presumed the remote device (MacOS vs PC/Samsung) would not be important as I assumed it is the player program (i.e. XDMS, Roon etc) that would be the big determinant of the final sound regardless of the device used. Can you please explain why the choice of the handheld device itself effects the sonics?

Marty, the device only affects the sound for OCD audiophiles. I guess one could subscribe to the theory that “everything matters,” but this is one (of many) things that I am not going to even contemplate.

Those devices generate network activity, app background activity, sync your iCloud backup, upload telemetry, the privacy violation stuff like your location, etc. More when in use then when in sleep mode. Apple seems to do that a bit more then Google (android) but neither are saints in that area.

Fair enough but it is a legit question that I would have too and has not been addressed on this thread yet.
and then as dminches states, as long as the iPad is in the same room as the router, all is good and tested by Emile

@Taiko Audio

so here's my question. My iPad and router are in the same room. I never use that iPad for anything but XDMS. Is that not an ideal situation for the topic at hand or am I missing something

Do you have a 2nd device to do other things while in the listening room?

If you switch your wi-fi selection when you want to browse the web that shouldn’t affect the music.

I often have my MBP in the same room and on occasion use it to surf the net. For my ears I hear zero degradation in SQ

That is an ideal situation, especially when that Ipad is the only wireless device connected to the Taiko router.

I can sleep peacefully tonight with visions of BPS, TACDA and TACDD in my head. :)

I have 2 ipads, 1 just for audio stripped down. The other for day to day BS...

For the OCD audiophile a quick “tweak” is enabling “low data mode” on your ipad.

What to expect in Low Data Mode

Different apps use different ways of reducing data usage in Low Data Mode. In general, here's what you can expect:
  • Apps might stop using network data when you're not actively using them.
  • Background App Refresh is turned off.
  • The quality of streaming content might be reduced.
  • Automatic downloads and backups are turned off.
  • Services such as iCloud Photos pause updates.
Built-in iOS apps and services adapt to Low Data Mode in the following ways:
  • App Store: Video autoplay, automatic updates, and automatic downloads are turned off.
  • Music: Automatic downloads and high quality streaming are turned off.
  • Podcasts: The frequency of feed updates is limited, and episodes are downloaded only on Wi-Fi.
  • News: Article prefetching is turned off.
  • iCloud: Updates are paused, and automatic backups and iCloud Photos updates are turned off.
  • FaceTime: Video bitrate is optimized for lower bandwidth.

@Taiko Audio

Here it is a slow and sunny day so maybe I can ask Emile a few things that have never been answered.....however if it is premature in getting an answer, I understand.....over this past ear IIRC you said you had 17 projects in development or soon to be developed....can you share in part or in whole what these projects are, when they might surface and what they are intended for
