Do you not feel that we essentially “rent” vinyl through the course of our lives before it transitions hopefully to a new home for next generations and thus we should have a duty of care to preserve these original pressings? The fact the General cares so much about each and every one of his 300k+ is a testament to his philosophy / care for the recorded arts imho.
Bill. Are you becoming a buddhist. This is exactly the preaching about life, ownership, object of belonging.

Tang :)

There is no way Ron is going to listen to Du Pre. He listens to big orchestral, so B's 9th, 5th, Pictures, Scheherazade, etc. I can take the Du Pre

Dear all,

thank you very much to those that understand my drive as part of a group, to complete an archive that will outlive mankind as we currently are. The humour provided by the non English speaking fraternity is outstanding.

We in the group are pleasantly surprised that not all accomplished individuals are self loving single cell amoeba. It took 100,000 years of human exploit and development to achieve the minute window known to everyone as the golden-era.

Our respect for what this took to achieve is our soul driver, we will be long dead when this body of work will be unearthed most likely by the unearthly.

On a lighter note a special thank you to Ron Resnick, Khun Tang and Jeffrey T; for their most gracious donations to charity. As such they make our new year's honours list and will receive an ERC title each (see below).

Kindest regards, G.
I am speechless G. I will pay it forward.

Kindest regards,
Tang

No I have tried to get him into concertos - it is not about full orchestra it needs to be really big. You will see.

Very "Patek Phillipe" of you...LoL. It betrays some Swiss experience in your background. Ha!

I can't remember what show I heard these at but they were without a doubt, one of the best speakers I've ever heard.

Outstanding! I'm struggling to conjure up any additional words other than thank you.

You commitment to discovering the best recordings and pressings has changed the way I'm building my collection. I've been buying additional copies of my favorite recordings and assessing the sound quality of each. What I've found is buying the lowest number pressing is not the shortcut to better sound. You have to buy several copies and be prepared to "throw many in the skip" as you've said General.

Thank you for your contributions to this forum.

Beautifully said, but in fact are people perserving our hobby or just the vinyl pressings? Can we anticipate that the new generations will still listen to LP's or will they just collect them like people do for stamps or coins?

Du Pre - Ron

Thank you, General, for your amazing generosity. I already was extremely grateful to you for curating those rare LPs for me, and I was more than happy to make a contribution.

I think I heard some noise (hum?) from Kedar. Please rest assured that I am, and that I always will be, very happy and truly excited to learn about new music with you as my mentor.

Thank you Kedar. I have this amazing view in Cyprus and this was a great read for me this morning on the balcony of the hotel room to enjoy it. Also glad you were able to hear Top Wing at its best. Ahhh life is grand!

Hi he has a lot of Eterna and Philips. And many other labels that are not hyped up that sound fantastic.

There were a lot of great artists (musicians and conductors) on Philips and a lot of great music. Some overlook the label because it's not RCA or EMI/Decca. I've found the more improved is my vinyl front-end, the better Philips sound - the music is there. Arthur Grumiaux, Claudio Arrau, Richter, Quartetto Italiano, D. Oistrakh to name a few.

Exactly. I would add to your short list the Beaux Arts Trio who made fantastic recordings with Philips (Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert) and not forgetting Alfred Brendel. One of the most dynamic box set from Philips is Boccherini’s Guitar Quintets with Pepe Romero and the Academy of St. Martin-In-The-Fiels’ Chamber Ensemble.

Alfred Brendel's 5 Piano Concertos from Beethoven are fantastic on Philips. Artistically and concerning sound. Also his Mozart interpretations.
Another name is to mention: Bernard Haitink !
