Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Just finished another deep dive with a variety of material. It certainly is material dependent to a degree. But after a while, finding the setting that provides the "musical truth" is like watching Kurosawa's Rashomon and trying to figure out whose version of the story was most truthful. Just pick one and close the damn control panel or you will go nuts! (I'm still a 3 but 7 almost had me at times if it weren't for the bass.)

Its been referred to as Audio Nervosa.....the angst that you may not have the optimum setting and are therefore somehow missing out on some sonic absolute which puts you in a state of constant analysis. Horrible.....
Given that this errr ‘control’ can somehow make or break your sound (based on some of the descriptions above) yet rests on no firm technical foundation (What it does, its effect and how to use it) gives me no clue as to why its there (other than maybe for developers and engineers to optimise some clocking characteristic).
Marty has the solution. If you do open this little can of worms, chose one, close the can and move on. If every time you listen to a less than optimum recording, you start thinking about this setting, you’re never going to stop analysing, which is no way to enjoy music.

I've spent 7 years getting my Zus subs settings just right. Another 7 years on this? Um...

NO. You don't have to do it all, no one is forcing or even asking you to:)

I tried 3 yesterday...for me it was bright and a bit thin

5 just snaps into place so obviously in my system, it's not subtle at all....

Indeed, now imagine you have a Phasure Lush^2 USB cable with something like 10k settings. Horrible^2 ;)

You guys wanna get Bass and Treble controls, and a Loudness button. Graphic equaliser maybe Lol.

My preamp already has a rather nice set of tone controls. I even use them from time to time.

The effect of this setting in Roon doesn't sound like it is affecting the frequency domain. More like time domain or jitter-related.

I'm just guessing though.

Steve

I found I liked 5 as well. Also Default. Wouldn't it be interesting if they are the same? Does anyone know what level Default represents?

I was told by an industry insider that Roon Labs fired it's "2-channel guys." In particular, he cited Steve Silberman and Bill Leebens. Roon is apparently moving to focus on "Home Integration." Think speakers in your bathroom and thermostat controls.

Sound's like bad news to me and perhaps a explanation for the latest software release sq problems.

Emile, lead us to the Promised Land!

Maybe Emile could negotiate an acquisition of the 2 channel rights with Roon?

I thought Leebens worked at PSAudio.
I thought Silberman was the Roon sales rep and that he left earlier this year. Not sure if he was let go or left on his own....

Danny Duali is one of those "I'm the smartest guy in the room" kinda of guy and I'll bet not easy to work with, but who knows?

I think Leebens retired recently as he stopped writing his standard column for PS Audio's Copper magazine (which always has an interesting article or two) with a farewell post a few months ago. Never really thought of him as a tech guy, however.

Greetings,

Here is the Ubiquiti X- SFP router. I must warn you, I bought one about a week ago and got so frustrated with trying to set it up with my Verizon Router that I stuck it in the box and returned it.

Then I was mad at myself for giving up and ordered another one. It only took an hour to install, but I could not figure out how to eliminate the conflicting IP addresses between the Verizon router and the Edge router. It was just me. Anyone familiar with networking would have done it in 15 minutes.

I am using the SGC LPS. I know there are more elaborate LPS's available but for $160 the SGC does a great job. I could tell the difference when I added it to my Verizon router.

You need the 12V version for the Edge router.

If anyone goes this route and has questions about setting up the Ubiquiti Edge let me know, I now can either answer any questions or at least point you in the right direction, which is exactly what Al and Roy did for me.

How does a 12V LPS fare with the Edgerouter? Its requirements state 24VDC. Have you had any issues with an underpowered LPS?

Did you get the LPS for the Edgerouter. How much power does the LPS output? It's says 24VDC

I have the JCAT Optimo 3 Duo LPS connected to one of the JCAT Gold Switches. I also have it connected to the Edge router as the Optimo has dual outputs.

The Edge router works with I think it's 5V?? to 24V. The JCAT Optimo is feeding it 12V. Someone else mentioned they are feeding the Edge 15V.

It is not being underpowered. The 24V is if you are using POE I believe or something else that I can't think of the wording. As far as I know it operates the same with different voltage inputs but I have not experimented with it and don't intend to.
