Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I have to say again that for me the SQ had to be a priority and the rest would develop along the way. Indeed we have seen just that. This is not perfect yet but visually it is so much better than the last Alpha version. I love the active buttons at the top to easily and quickly switch players

So my final question to Ed......If there is no sonic difference between XD player (gap) and now the Gapless player (allows playing a playlist of up to 20 tracks), is there any reason to use the Extreme direct

If the tracks in the queue are mostly from streaming, and there are some hi res tracks in the queue, and your internet connection is slow, the Gapless player’s full queue loading time can be quite long, minutes

With the single play Extreme XD, only one track is being downloaded and then the listening can begin

May be I am misunderstanding. Why can't the gapless be used to play single tracks as well as playlists.....if they are sonically identical then using gapless for a single track should be OK???

sorry, but i'm very confused.
there is no volume control on the extreme, correct?
volume shows 0% on Steve's picture and 100% on eurodriver's, but there is no volume control?
what am i missing here?

Interesting find. I too am confused.

After 5 minutes of struggling via the legacy interface, I managed to get my iPad and iPhone both to display 0% to consistent with Steve’s Extreme. The good news is the music sounds the same :)

A cool option would be if you could see at the Queue logo "coming up next" and the name of the next song in the queue...

Great cool option, keep the suggestions coming !

Another cool suggestion we have received is when the iPad is stationary but the cover is open, the screen would go into Coffee Table Book mode, looking like a Taschen coffee table book. When you pick up the iPad, then the GUI screen comes up.

We have the first mock up of the new GUI running under Figma (a UI/UX authoring tool). Drop me a line if you want to run mockup, and I can send you an invite

Gapless can be used to play single tracks. However we want to make the queue list more persistent. One annoying thing presently is that if you find a new song, play it, then existing queue is deleted and you can not retrieve it

So our functionality thoughts are that there will be
- queue
- playlists
- history
- clipboard for saving track entries as one browses the queue, saved play lists or search results and can then paste into a new or existing playlist

So under this structure, XD might become "play clipboard"

Is there any plan to implement custom browse based on custom fields? I have a number of custom fields in the metadata of my files which help me to filter to the tracks I want to listen.

We have pretty much crossed the Rubicon and decided that together with the new interface, Taiko should have its own database.

Then issues like disappearing albums, unrecognized tracks will be under our control.

The added functionality of customer defined fields is a feature we have been thinking about.

How many field would be sufficient for your use case ?

We are thinking of 2 search screens, selectable by tapping on the relevant icon

the first is a single string search, and the second is a form including custom fields

It really depends on the number of standard fields in TAS. For example, does TAS recognise field composer, orchestra, movement or composition. I really don’t listen to classical music by album. I have Complete Bach, Beethoven and Mozart Edition. These sets have 100+ CDs. It is impossible to pick a particular CD to listen to. I mostly listen to classical music by composition.

This is the type of database indexing and structuring challenge that Wilson and I enjoyed in our previous careers :)

Do you use any of the online music databases such as MusicBrainz ? If so any favorites ?

I think it is helpful if the search options include something related to the path name.

FWIW, this is only the 2nd version of the alpha release and the improvements from the first continue to pave a path in the right direction.

I had a blast yesterday listening to alpha version 2

The beauty of it al is that we have a team who listens to our thoughts and rather than round filing them Emile and his team takes heed in our suggestions and with the genius of Winston things are happening very quickly with TAS

Kudos to the team as I find just the update to the appearance of the presentation is inching closer to where we want to be. Patience's a virtue and all good things come to he who waits

In light of that is there still optimism that we will be seeing Tidal on TAS as we did with Roon
