Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I just watched the video on Wally the Alligator. A lovely way to spend 7+ minutes of precious life and I will not look at alligators in the same mostly fearful light...

...cuddly little bastard. I made a mental note to connect the dots when I eventually read the headline: "Man Disfigured by Pet Alligator."

Listening to my new Extreme and a large DXD track (33 min and no problems, so far)

That's encouraging to hear! Can you check what the file size is for this track? Because many of us are having trouble on large files, as previously reported to Ed and team. I also have a 33 min DXD track, but it does not play:

When is concert vs. discovery mode set? Does it have to be selected before play/queue?
Please describe the rules for how and when concert mode is determined and activated.

Also are the gaps between tracks the same for all bitrates?

Cheers

Another point of clarification, if someone happens to know the answer. How do the USB choices (1-4) and bit-rate settings interact, if at all, with xdms? I understand how to adjust those for Roon, but it's unclear to me whether they even matter for xdms--and, if so, how to adjust them for my particular dac. I'm interested only because I'm demoing a new dac and would like to optimize it for use with xdms.
Thanks.

Discovery or Concert needs to be set before play commences

the gap in Concert mode should be invariant

At the present time I actually hard code the 24/32 bit setting in the configuration file. In due course the choice of 24 or 32 will be selectable from the App

USB profiles set the buffer sizes. These will also be selectable from the App

each DAC has its preferred profile as per the Guide on the Taiko Website

Ed, thanks for the quick reply! Can you point me to the config file so I could adjust that setting? I saw you do that, but didn't take note of where that file resides.
On the USB profile, xdms shows in DAC settings that I'm using the 4 profile (which I think you set based on my old dac profile). My demo dac specifies using Profile 3. I know I can't currently just change that in xdms, but I loaded USB3 on the Extreme and xdms still shows 4. Do you think it's really using USB3 now, in reality?
Thanks again.

100 pct guarantee that the last PowerShell script executed persists until and PowerShell Script is run

For robustness sake, I would rather edit the .conf

The syntax is unforgiving

Listening to XMDS and the 24-192 remaster of Court & Spark, just lovely sound.

Ed has kindly set me up with XDMS and I have managed an hour or so of listening. A very nice step forward from Roon. Much has been said already but I think my key summary would be an apparent lowering of the noise floor. This enhances dynamics and engagement in the music.

Well done Team Taiko. Awesome work.

Not to worry, the team have this on their list. I'm sure it will get fixed.

Not at all worried. I've been a developer for almost 35 years, since I got out of the Air Force in 1988. What these guys have done, in the amount of time they've done it, is most impressive, and they way it's being managed is so smart. Not saying this to brown-nose, it's just true. I'm quite content with what I already have, but details are just a matter of a little more time.

Hi Ed,

I have the same issue as Jpowell.

So to be clear, are you saying that if one wishes to change the DAC profile in XDMS, that it is better for the user to run the USB profile script for the particular profile?
As opposed to the user trying to edit the config (.conf) file - as the latter is easy to screw up and is best left up to you to do?

Someone will correct me no doubt if I've got this wrong, but my understanding now is that the DAC profile sets the buffer size and once a new profile is loaded (from the Extreme desktop) it stays until someone manually loads a different one. Eventually that looks to be configurable in xdms, perhaps, or perhaps auto-loaded based on one's chosen dac--I'm just speculating here, of course.
The config setting discussed was to set the bit size, I believe, and I understand why Taiko would prefer to make such adjustments themselves--I think they're afraid, and I can't disagree, that their support load would go way up (as though it weren't already over the top) if all of us alpha users started 'tinkering' on our own in the backwaters :).

I am curious where the bit rate is set in the player.conf file.
