Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I think he missed us. Loved the flurry of messages today. Exciting times. Can't stop thinking of where I am going to fit this mini spaceship.

I was wondering if those dimensions are correct! 9” x 9” x 2” - is that right?
If it is, then a solid block of steel that size would weigh only about 12 lbs more — that’s a solid block!
Maybe it’s not steel ;)

The BMS we're working on casing options now, we have a few 2 box prototypes but we've also managed to fit everything into a single box, this is slightly larger at 483*483*185mm without footers (for reference, the current Extreme is 483*455*165mm) but otherwise will have more or less the same looks as the current Extreme, though with improved finish options. If we were to offer this option we would naturally accept a trade in of the old "chassis" which could then be stripped/refinished/repurposed.
Hello Emile (@Taiko Audio )

In your message number 12067 you mention the possibility of upgrading the current Extreme with the battery based power supply.

Will it be possible to power the new switch with the Extreme's internal battery based power supply?

In other words, do you think it would be feasible to include a power output at the back of the Extreme?

This would make it possible to have a compact system, consisting of two boxes: Extreme + Switch.

Cheers,

Thomas

Recently, we started work on streamlining our support system. With our growing customer base and with multiple persons providing support, in order to be truly effective, we need to have all the communication in one place.

To this end, we have implemented the Richpanel Support System, a utility that combines a clean and simple interface with very powerful organizational capabilities.

You can access our new support section from any page on the Taiko Audio website. Just click the Support menu item (top right) or the Chat balloon (bottom right) and a popup window will open.

01 Links to Richpanel.png

You can choose to chat with us directly or browse the help section. At the moment, the help section is limited but we have the intention to expand this section to include a Frequently Asked Questions section and more.

If no support staff is available for a live chat, the message will be saved automatically and you will be alerted via mail when Taiko staff have left a reply.

The big upside of this system is that it seamlessly unifies chat and email. So, if desired, you can still send an email as usual to support@taikoaudio.com and it will go into the same system. Nothing changes for those who email us exclusively. The only thing you may have noticed is the Richpanel logo at the bottom of our emails.

Yes that is exactly what we are planning to do.The prototype BPS in the photo below has 3 outputs.

@Taiko Audio That's great news ! :)

So, if I understand correctly, the Extreme's internal power supply will provide :

- an output for the motherboard

- an output for the USB and Network cards ( using a y-shaped cable)

- An output to the outside (19V), which will be able to power the switch.

Is this correct?

Dear Emile and Edward,
This thread is now 615 pages long with more than 12k posts.
It's quite difficult to read through and locate specific info.

On #12067, we are happy to know that the new Origami chassis is ready and is a more affordable choice for Extreme customers.

It's mentioned that the coming optional BMS might be able to be put together with the server section into ONE Origami chassis.
Is this correct?

I would also like to know more about the new powersupply section/circuit boards which employs Gallium Nitride components (showed during the Munich Show in May).
Is it ready now or very soon?
Is this an option and can be offered to current Extreme Server owners as a powersupply upgrade?
If some Extreme owners don't want to install BMS, can this newer and better powersupply section be avaialble and installed without the battery section?
Can this new powersupply section be installed and replaced the old one inside the current CNC Extreme chassis?

Many thanks for your answers in advance!
:D

@CKKeung , my apologies for the overdue reply but I actually could not provide you with a complete answer before.

At this stage we may not launch the Origami chassis. Reason being it currently requires partial outsourcing which has become really troublesome in Europe due to the energy crisis and mayor personnel shortages. We have moved all CNC machining of the Extreme chassis to in house this year as our previous suppliers could take months to complete assignments. The next problem we're now running into is the simple process of surface finishing / anodising, we have a very good company for that now, but they have several open vacancies, lost some personnel due to lung COVID amongst others, or staff moved on to better paying jobs, and now the simple process of anodising a batch of chassis parts van take 2 months in stead of the usual 2 weeks. That coupled with the fact the Extreme is a high demand product where a 2 month wait is very disruptive to production has made us decide to look into what types of surface finishing we are able to move to in house as well (excluding anodising as we alread know we don;t want to go there). That changes things for chassis manufacturing.

We are now pretty close to finalising a few options we can manufacture 100% in house which will include:
-The switch chassis
-A single chassis Extreme with internal BPS
-A small and large single chassis BPS which can be used to power an Extreme and/or other devices
-The current Extreme will remain to exist as it is, but the supply time will be higher (due to the need for external surface finishing) and the price is going to increase

More details to follow soon.

A few direct answers:

1) Is it ready now or very soon? - I'd say a realistic launch will be in april-may 2023
2) Is this an option and can be offered to current Extreme Server owners as a powersupply upgrade? - Yes
3)
If some Extreme owners don't want to install BMS, can this newer and better powersupply section be avaialble and installed without the battery section? - Possibly yes
4)
Can this new powersupply section be installed and replaced the old one inside the current CNC Extreme chassis? - Possibly yes

If you change to the internal BPS it would power the motherboard, usb, and network card separately and would probably still have 3 or so outputs for external devices.

Does this mean that there will be 2 power supply upgrade options, one that is battery powered and one that is not?
