Trinity DAC

Surprisingly none of trinity gears make its appearance at any of the 3 shows in Munich last week. Wouldn't the shows esp the Munich High end show give it the exposure it needed ? Or is merely audioexotics words of month suffice ? I would have love to hear it & maybe even purchase it if its that good . Just wondering .....

Agree with you that it is a real pity that the Trinity gear could not be listened to at the Munich high end show. However, quite some people listened to a complete Trinity set up at Dietmar's place. So if you are interested (and I suppose a serious music lover/audiophile should be as Trinity's dac/transport sound absolutely stunning) I would suggest to contact Dietmar personally. I believe Trinity will be demoing at the next Milan high end show but you could check this with Dietmar as well.

Hi guys, I has been with Dietmar last weekend and he still didn't have the production cost for it, so have no price yet, and he told me will have stereo and mono amplifiers. So the mono configuration only is not correct. His system is using a stereo prototype version of trinity amplifier
Best Regards
Luiz

In that case I stand corrected .. was only echoing what one of his distributors told me .

Dietmar is going to visit me next Wednesday and Thursday. I will ask him again and will let everyone know if a retailprice for the Trinity power amps has been set by now. As soon as he finalizes the monobloc version of his power amps I will give them a listen. As a tube (set) lover using Kondo and Zanden amps I am curious to find out if the Trinity solid state power amps will sound as good as the Trinity dac/drive. If that would indeed be the case, I suppose I need to change my views. Apart from the Pass aleph power amps of many moons ago I never liked the solid state amps I listened to in the past. So I am very curious to find out how good the Trinity power amps really are.

Dietmar informed me that the retailprice of the Trinity stereo amp is Eur 54k and the monobloc version will cost twice as much, that is Eur 108k.

I have to say I'm "impressed" by the price levels from a relative newcomer on the market, no matter how well performing the products are.

That is Soulution / Constellation teritory ... they (Trinity) are also longer on the market too (since 2003 I believe).

Still EXTREMELY pricey though :(

Well, to put all into perspective I would like to remark the following. Dietmar has first of all been active in the audio world in all kind of capacities for more than thirty years. So he is far from a greenhorn and longer active in the audio business than many audio manufacturors demanding comparable or higher prices. Secondly, wait for the technical specs of his amp to be published on Trinity's website. Bet on it you will be seriously impressed. Thirdly, I know - although I do not want to claim technicial expertise - from own experience how well built Trinity's components are and the extreme quality (and one can very likely conclude : the high costs. I refer to one of Adam's contribution to this thread regarding the Trinity dac) of the components being used. Many audio companies use rather cheap and off the shelf/middle of the road components while charging very high prices for these products. Last but not least, in the end I suppose we can only judge the (un)fairness of pricing after giving a certain product a serious listen under controlled circumstances. I have not heard the Trinity power amps yet and favor tube amps up till now (using Kondo and Zanden amps which I love). But I will definately give the Trinity amps a serious listen, although I am far from sure if I ever will opt for them or any other solid state for that matter.

Fair enough. Thanks for the input.

There is nothing in that amp that constitutes 54k euro or 108k euro for the mono's! Maybe his time to come up with the design, but to build it, is not that much money. Come on guys. . . . .

If you knock off 40 to 50 points to the dealer it brings it down 27k euro or so. Hey it would be awesome to sell a few pair of them!

I suppose you are saying that the retail prices of high end in general are (way) too high?

Yes! Its a shame because there is nothing like music and great sounding music is amazing. I wish younger and more people where into it.

We surely agree that it would be great if high end prices were (much) lower so that much more people could enjoy what real pleasure a good high end set up can provide. My point is that the prices of Trinity do not compare unfavourably to other high end companies given the quality of their products, components used and craftmanship. For example I have never heard (but I can rule nothing out of course as I have not listened to all (promising) digital devices in the world) digital better than through the Trinity dac and Trinity media/cd-player. It is an amazing and beautiful sounding combo. However it would be great if the Trinity products could be produced cheaper and I talked about this with Dietmar. But he is very clear on this subject: the same (sound) quality can not be produced cheaper. And I fully believe him: getting to know him quite well after visiting eachother a couple of times, I have learned that he is an absolute honest man fully believing in what he is doing. As a matter of fact, of the many, many people I met in my more than 35 years audio journey Dietmar from Trinity and Miguel from Tripoint Audio are the most fanatical ones in a good sense. An enormous drive to produce the absolute best they can achieve because they adore music. And just to be clear about this one more time: I have no (financial) interest in Trinity and Tripoint whatsoever, I just love and admire their audio components being a pretty fanatic music lover myself.

People can get the wrong idea of this type of arguments. Although the ultimate sound reproduction is very expensive, and involves a journey that most people are not prepared to do - e.g. meeting the right people, experimenting, changing and fine tuning - a reasonable cost system can also deliver great sound reproduction. This can be done more easily if you optimize it for the music you like more and forget about the 2% of time you listen to test records or a recording a good friend brought and you really can not stand!

IMHO prices can not be analyzed at the component level, but at the system level and considering they are optimally matched. And I do not believe in rigid rules for budget distribution among equipment.

Although I learn a lot from music debates in audio forums, I always try to separate the music lover / sound reproduction lover in debates. Enjoyment and love for music are very different qualities, although they cab be interconnected.

Agree and from my own personal experience, I have to admit I had some very expensive and wonderful components mixed with a $50 Daewoo DVD player for the longest time. I found very little benefit for what I was looking for in incrementally upgrading the digital over and over again. Yes, I did make a single big step up when some 2nd hand digital equipment came my way, but I probably had the Daewoo for close to 10 years before the jump. And I was not bothered by the many options available at that time that came and went for upgrading the source.

I have met and spent some time with Dietmar before at the show at rocky mount. He is an awesome guy and his intelligence is without question.

Lets look at Spectral is that stuff engineer less than other high end companies? Hey they are well respected and they sell their monos 25k, stereo 10k thats a big difference than 50k or 150k. I know their chassis are nice and comments are up to par. . .
Its is interesting to me.

We still do not know anything about the amps ... so it is difficoult to compare. If you analyse the design of the Trinity DAC, it is easy to see why it costs as much as it does.

I was one of the very first to criticize the price of the Trinity DAC in this very thread. I had stated 'It looks like a $3-4k product from the outside. So I think it is natural, when a '$4k looking' product sells for $52,000, to ask questions what makes it that special.'

I was also quick to note that 'If there are (...) things that make it really special - I would like to know. Maybe the price is not as unreasonable as it seems and the DAC is worth every penny. In which case, there could be at least a dosen of people on this forum interested in this DAC. '

Luckily, I managed to borrow the DAC and verify that for myself. I can tell you that it is not possible to manufacture this DAC any cheaper - not using the quality of parts Dietmar insisted on (like $4000 cristal oscillators, where 99% of manufacturers are fine $5 ones, and those few that claim to use 'femto clocks' use $35 parts).

I ended up buying this DAC - it was soo much better than my previous dCS/MSB references. I would like to learn the story behing this amp, although it is very unlikely, I will end up buying one (for costs reasons).

Similar to Adam, I initially thought that Trinity DAC was too expensive but then was totally conquered after hearing it KO a stack of Vivaldi easily.

However, the new Trinity mono poweramp of >euro100k per pair is really too too too dear for me. :(

Hi,

Below a link with our recent presentation in Spain with Trinity products.

http://www.hifilive.es/2014/05/06/ultimate-sessions-en-valencia/

We used Trinity PC&Drive; Preamp; Phono and Dac with great success!

Some attendees told us that They never experienced this quality of sound in a Trade Show in a hotel!
